The Averran court wizard, Cygnus is considered one of the best mages in the city. He wishes that were true. He doesn't believe himself to be qualified for the position- which, in truth, he's not, having only gained his title from a now deceased relative- he often over compensates for that anxiety, leading to a fair amount of enemies.

He has an extensive history with Asterius, and the two have a complicated relationship. Both would tell you they hate each other, but Tallixan is of the opinion they're both horribly in love and are unable to admit it.
